∞ XXI. Many years Ago

Westminster was the home of Mary and Scott Walker. It had been five years after the war of the roses and was returning to England on track.
A knock on the door wide mansion Walker surprises.
- Please have the lady a corner so that I can spend this cold night?
His voice was accompanied by an accent. He was a boy with brown hair tangles and hazel eyes born of suffering. The face was covered in scratches caused by cold and biting wind that hit the boy's pale skin. His clothes were shabby and grimy. He should have a maximum of twenty years in that day.
Mary looked at her husband, who then turned to the door.
- Please, sir. Even the floor is better than me standing in the cold.
The Walker looked at each other.
- Come in.
- I. .. I do not know how to thank you, sir. Thank you very much.
Scott, evaluating how sleazy the boy was asked:
- I suppose you're hungry.
   The boy shrugged, embarrassed.
- The truth is that I didn't eat absolutely nothing for three days.
The look of the hosts became more complacent before the misery in which he was the guest. Amelia, one of the maids, pacing the corridors and Scott instructed to get a room and clean clothes for the boy after making him a hot bath.
- N-No need, I do not want to bother them.
- Nonsense. Not welcome you under compulsion. Therefore, we want to pass a good night here.
Even with a room for a guest, it was something extremely luxurious for someone who was used to living on the streets and sleeping on park benches completely outdoors. The hot tub water was something strange for him because he was used to the cold rainwater.
Dinner served him out then. A bottom plate of soup with breads, fine cheeses and a glass of mulled wine. He never thought he would have a large meal like that, but he felt a bit embarrassed by it.
- I have not thank you enough for that.
- Not necessary. What is your name?
- My name is Jasper Forks, sir. Wales came here in search of work, but so far have not found any.
- I'm sure you'll find something. After all, you are still young and have energy to spare. What were you doing in Wales?
- I was steward of an important family, but they moved to France and left me for not knowing how to speak French fluently.
- That's good. Even if you do not speak fluently. Few stewards who have some knowledge.
- Thank you, sir. Know also read and write perfectly. Some time ago, I learned Latin and a little about how to handle a sword.
- You are a rare butler.
Jasper smiled shyly and bowed his head in respect.
- You must be tired - Mary intervened - Have a good night.
- Good evening, gentlemen.
   He bowed deeply before retiring.
- It is unfortunate what happened to this guy.
- No doubt. But he must find a suitable place.
Scott stopped at the first rung of the ladder and looked at Mary, with a countenance.
- I know this look ... However, it still may not know what we are.
- He does not need to know now. It is still too young to understand.
- So it's decided.

Jasper was forced to wake up and say goodbye to that comfortable bed and into the mansion that housed overnight. The house was absolutely silent, yet so that he could leave. Yes, he knew it would be completely devoid of education act, but would not have to say to them.
Donned their old costumes, but they were washed, and went silently from the room into the hallway.
- Jasper Forks.
It was the voice of Mary. What were they doing awake so early?
- Where do you think will dress this way?
   He swallowed.
- Well .. I do not want to bother any longer. I will be forever grateful for the treatment they gave me, even if it was for just one night.
Scott was going up the stairs as he heard the conversation and put his hand on the boy's shoulder, startling him.
- And who says you will be a nuisance? Mary and I got me a deal last night.
- I do not understand, sir.
Scott put a clothes butler on the hands of Jasper.
- We're counting on you, Butler Forks.
His hands were shaking, a mixture of joy and disbelief. Finally he knocked on the right door.
- I will always be available.
- Then go change. We have an appointment in a couple of hours and you should join us.

Jasper became the best butler in the region. The most faithful, refined and helpful than any noble house would have. Only twenty years, Walker had absolute confidence in him and taught him fluent french and german as well, causing it could accompany them on trips outside of England.

The faithful steward was already twenty-nine when Anthony Walker, the youngest son of the family was born. Even if it were no relatives, he had some affection for children, but without losing the attitude that Butler had. This made the whole family always had as someone dear. They never ignored his birthday and not the date on which he became butler. Jasper never had such a happy life.
However, one day all the loyalty he had for the Walker family was put to the test when he was called up to the double bedroom with hot water and towels to assist the Mary.
He heard the crying boy Anthony and knocked. Mary gave the command to him to get the same second.
Jasper had to struggle not to overthrow in his hands at the sight. The pale neck was bleeding and Mary Anthony was dirty with bloody lips.
- Don't fear, Jasper.
He saw a pair of white fangs as milk parts when the woman spoke to him. Yes, the butler had heard rumors about the existence of vampires, but what could not imagine was that the family he so cherished was composed only of aristocratic vampires.
- Mrs. Walker ... You all ...
- Do not tell him before because he was too young to understand. However, after ten years on our side, it is your right to know who is serving.
   He was trembling slightly.
- We will not do any harm to you, you need not fear. If our intention was to kill you, do not think we would have done it the first day you knocked on our door?
She was right. They would not wait ten years to attack him.
- Now help me.
Jasper was still awesome, but could not believe that family that both estimated could kill you now. Both they and the children were attached to him and the feeling he had for them was no different.
- Yet still with us, Jasper?
- Sure, lady. Even that will not distract me from this family. I just ask that I can morer serving them as human.
   Mary smiled.
- But of course. Unless you want to become one of us.
- Not quite yet, ma'am.

Everyone says they can not deny one fact we do not know the future. However, he did not have much choice.
Jasper had contracted a horrible flu, which was about to turn into pneumonia, which would be almost certain death. The butler was naquea situation two months ago and still insisted on serving the family, no matter what they asked him to rest.
One morning, the boy was burning with fever and could barely keep my eyes open. The doctor said the butler thirty-two years did not pass that day.
- I recommend that you find a new butler. I am sorry.
   Jasper still reacted.
- I'm sorry about that. Anyway, I will die happy to have served you during these twelve years. Even in the afterlife will not forget what they did for me, ever.
The family heart ached to think they would lose a beloved butler. The Walker never afeiçoavam someone, but Jasper was the only exception. It was as if the boy were a family member.
- Scott, you think it's too late?
- Never be late. We can not lose someone as valuable as him.
- What we do?
- You better. I do not have much sensitivity in canines.
Mary remembered the request of the young butler, but the idea of losing him was painful for the whole family. She bent close to the boy and did what had to be done.
His eyes opened spontaneously, but he was still the same, with the only difença is that it would be an immortal butler, as well as the family.
Jasper frowned, feeling pain in my neck and took his hand to the wound. He felt the imprint of prey Mary and her hand was dirty with his own blood.
- I do not believe ... Why? I asked to die as a human.
- Jasper, could not just let him die. You are of paramount importance to us all.
   Butler's eyes conveyed rancor.
- I was happy even after knowing that he was serving vampires, however, I said I wanted to become one of you! I was loyal to them and answered every wish you could have, so why not fulfilled my one desire?
They fell silent. For a moment, thought that their happiness would be the same as Jasper, but were mistaken. The butler went out the window, embittered.
The children, who were already old enough to understand what was happening, Jasper cried when viewed from out of nowhere. Mary and Scott did not know what to do to have it back in the family. Yes, they had guilt for not respecting his request and now had no excuse to bring him back.

The cold and hunger no longer affected the most. Jasper had nowhere to go and felt moved. After all, he thought he dedicated his entire life to take care of human Walker family, but he cheated. He knew they had not done any harm, but to continue with it. However, he never violated anyone's desire and the least he wanted was to have died there. The butler had nothing against vampires, just did not want to become one of them. He heard that, to become human again, he should put an end to the whole family, as well as their poison disappear. However, he did not dare raise their hands against the family that gave him a chance without even knowing it. Decided to go back and try to redeem himself, but before he went out the window, he heard Scott say to one of the children, who cried:
- Jasper will not come back, he does not like us anymore.
- But ... - was the voice of Scarlet.
- He betrayed us, my little one, forget it.
That was not true. He loved that family. However, after that, stepped back and began to think about how to be human again. If he was a traitor in the philosophy of Walker, then he would become a traitor.

He patiently waited another ten years until he decided to return to the mansion to get free. Used the acute hearing and heard Mary in the room, apparently alone. Jasper had a stake in his coat pocket and held it. Broke in the room slightly and quickly stabbed the woman at heart, causing it could give only a faint cry of pain.
He left the hall when he saw the shadow of Scott, but had no time to hide and was forced to make a melee, which was laborious, since even unwilling to accept, Mr. Walker was stronger. However, even his strength was not sufficient to prevent the entry of the stake into his chest.
There remained only the heirs, who were already teenagers. He heard their breathing coming from the room and went quietly, with the stake prepared. But Jasper still see the faces of the children who were always in the kitchen with him, watching him prepare tea and meals. He had done a lot for one day and could not finish the job not to look so suspicious. Went out the window quickly, but ended up making a noise when it was going down to the garden.
He heard the cry of brothers and it broke his heart, but had been placed in their minds the image of a traitor, therefore, of no use to pity. He'll end the service, but in another day.
